Why you should be using natural laundry products in your home.

Did you know our skin is our largest organ? Or that the things we put on our skin can be absorbed into our bloodstream?

It's true! And that's why it is so important to be mindful of what products we use on our skin and in our home. When we use toxic, fragrance-filled products day after day, it can lead to detrimental impacts to our hormones, fertility, immune system, and even increase the risk of cancer.

What else do we put on our skin on a daily basis? OUR CLOTHES. The products we use to wash our clothes are soaked into our clothing, which then lays on top of our skin (and gets absorbed into our bloodstream) all day long.

Which is exactly why if you're looking to be more intentional with the products you're using in your home, you should start with your laundry products!

1. Ditch your toxic laundry detergent.

Growing up, we used Tide laundry deteregent – it was all I knew & used for years! But thankfully, I've since learned that conventional laundry detergent you'll find on most store shelves is packed full of harmful chemicals, synthetic fragrances, & colorant dyes that have been proven to impact hormones, immune function, fertility, and have also been linked to long term diseases & even cancer.

The good news is, there's an all natural alternative that is safer & works just as good (if not better). Thieves Laundry Soap is potent, plant-based, and ultra-concentrated with pure essential oils and powerful enzymes to effectively clean your clothes and leave them refreshed with a light citrus scent. One bottle will last you months because its SUPER concentrated – you only need a tablespoon or two for large loads.

DIY LAUNDRY SOAP

You can absolutely use Thieves Laundry Soap on it's own (we did this for many years). However, we started diluting it down a bit & adding a couple other ingredients to make it last even longer & work even better on extra dirty clothes (eh hem, sean's work clothes). Here's our recipe that lasts us weekssss:

  • ½ Thieves Laundry Soap
  • 3-4 capfuls Thieves Household Cleaner
  • Fill the rest with water (filtered or distilled preferred)
  • Optional: 10-15 drops lemon essential oil

We mix ours & keep it in a 32 oz plastic squeeze bottle – it just makes it so easy to add into our washing machine! But you can just use a half empty Thieves Laundry bottle, glass jar, or any other bottle you have around the house! Watch how I make ours here!

2. Alternatives to oxiclean & other toxic laundry powders / stain removers.

If you have kiddos at home (or a hubby that tends to bring home the dirtiest clothes @ my husband sean) then I'm sure you've used OxiClean or something of the sort in the past to remove stains, odors, and deep clean clothes.

Did you know there is a completely natural, safer alternative? Instead of using harsh chemicals filled with synthetic fragrances, dyes, and other chemicals that can effect your body – you need to snag Molly's Suds Laundry Powder

It's an all natural, gentle, & ultra concentrated laundry powder made with 4 stain fighting natural ingredients safe for the planet and safe for your family. We add one tablespoon sized scoop along with our Thieves Laundry Soap to clean and gently deodorize our loads of laundry.

3. Ditch the dryer sheets for wool dryer balls.

If I had to pick one product for every single home to ditch – it would be conventional dryer sheets! There have been countless studies linking dryer sheets to asthma, air pollution, and carcinogenic properties. They're packed full of fragrance & wreak havoc on your hormones. Again, your clothes lay on your skin all day long.. so you're not only breathing in those toxins, but your skin is absorbing them into your bloodstream too.

So what can you use instead? 100% wool dryer balls & pure essential oils! A safe, and all natural way to freshen clothes and also help with static. We love using lavender or purification on our dryer balls to leave a subtle, fresh smell on our clothes – but you can customize this with any essential oil you want!

A few of our favorite essential oils for laundry:

  • Lavender
  • Purification
  • Gentle Baby
  • Seedlings Calm

4. Ditch your fabric softener for distilled white vinegar.

There's no need to use toxic, fragrance-filled fabric softener anymore! Distilled white vinegar is an all-natural (and extremely budget-friendly) option to use instead. Simply add a tablespoon with your laundry soap to help with any odors & help get your clothes extra clean! This is especially helpful for the load of towels or clothing that you've forgotten in the washer for a day or two haha!

As a bonus, you can add in your favorite essential oils too! We use a glass bottle to pre-make our vinegar & lavender solution – that way it's a quick addition to our loads of laundry.

Empowering you to live your best life, one step at a time.
